Treasuries

Bonds issued by the US government: bills (a year or less), notes (2 to 10 years) and bonds (20 to 30 years). They are treated as the safest dollar investment.

Why we track it

Treasury yields are the baseline every other investment is measured against. When they jump, borrowing gets more expensive across the economy.
