High-yield bonds

Bonds from companies rated below investment grade, BB+ or lower, also called junk bonds. They pay more interest because the borrower is more likely to default.

Why we track it

Their prices react quickly when lenders turn nervous, so stress in junk bonds is often an early warning for stocks.
