Asset
Bond
A loan you make to a government or company. It pays interest on a set schedule and returns the amount you lent when it matures. When interest rates rise, existing bonds lose value.
Why we track it
Bonds are the other half of most portfolios. Their yields set the return stocks have to beat, and they have often held up when stocks fell, though not always.
