Concept
Private credit
Loans made directly by non-bank funds, mostly to mid-sized private companies, instead of through banks or public bond markets. Funds sold to individuals often allow withdrawals of only about 5% of assets a quarter.
Why we track it
It has grown into a roughly $2 trillion US market whose loans are not priced daily, so stress shows up first as withdrawal requests and limits rather than in market prices.
